Scrapping of restrictions on 30-day foal travel welcomed by EFTB
The European Federation of Thoroughbred Breeders' Associations has welcomed news that the EU Commission will not be applying restrictions on travelling foals under 30 days old as part of its newly enacted Animal Health Law.
A task force led by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports veterinary director Goran Akerstrom, and involving the EFTB's veterinary consultant Dr Des Leadon, has been involved in lobbying governmental avenues in order to achieve the result.
The EFTBA was concerned that a restriction of moving young foals with their dams would have resulted in additional costs for all European breeders in terms of potential loss from of reduced coverings, nominations and sales.
EFTBA chairman Joe Hernon said: "This is an example how EFTBA, guardian of the thoroughbred, can work and represent the many European breeding associations who fund the federation as it continues to address and negotiate on matters of great concern, including post Brexit and Animal Health Law issues."
