North America excels at Meydan as Coolagown prepares half-brother for sale
David Stack and Nigel Reily acquired the pair's dam for just €1,000
Coolagown Stud will offer a Dandy Man half-brother to North America (234) - who won the first round of the 2019 Al Maktoum Challenge at Meydan on Thursday - at this year's Goffs February Sale on February 5-6.
Seven-year-old Dubawi gelding North America, an accomplished performer for UAE trainer Satish Seemar, also won the third and final round of the same contest last year meaning his younger sibling will surely have plenty of buyers callings round to Barn F.
The colt is the first produce of Northern Mischief since she was acquired by Coolagown Stud manager David Stack and South African breeder Nigel Reily for the princely sum of €1,000 at the 2016 Goffs November Sale, having sold for as much as $450,000 in five previous journeys to the sales ring.
As well as producing a winner at the highest level, Northern Mischief is herself an elite performer, with the daughter of Yankee Victor - a half-sister to prolific top-flight winner Gourmet Girl - having finished third in the Grade 1 Starlet Stakes during her own racing career.
Another half-brother, Marfach, was runner-up to Cape Blanco in the Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown.
On the second day, Jim Bolger's Glebe House Stables will offer Stellar Mass (333), a six-year-old entire by Sea The Stars who was third of nine to Harzand in the 2016 Irish Derby and who subsequently won the Group 3 Ballyroan Stakes at Leopardstown.
Also of immense interest is It's A Wish (349), a four-year-old Invincible Spirit full-sister to the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest scorer Signs Of Blessing.
Flat sires represented include Acclamation, Australia, Battle Of Marengo, Dark Angel, Epaulette, Holy Roman Emperor, Kodiac, Lope De Vega, New Approach, New Bay and No Nay Never.
The breeding-stock section includes mares in foal to Awtaad, Cotai Glory, Decorated Knight, El Kabeir, Footstepsinthesand, Make Believe, New Bay and Night Of Thunder.
The catalogue features drafts from the Aga Khan Studs, Ballincurrig House Stud, Ballylinch Stud, Baroda & Colbinstown Stud, Irish National Stud, Moyglare Stud Farm and the Castlebridge Consignment.
Goffs Group chief executive Henry Beeby said: "Once again the February Sale will provide an eclectic selection of Flat and National Hunt horses of all ages, and provide great opportunities in each category.
"This sale has proved a rich source of pinhooking success in recent years and 2019's more concise catalogue will certainly cater to that demand."
Day one of the sale, which has been shortened to two days this year, starts at 10am and consists of 267 catalogued weanlings. The second session comprises two-year-olds, horses in training, older horses and breeding stock and commences at the same time.
