High-class sprint sire Equiano to relocate to Irish National Stud
The 15-year-old has sired star sprinters The Tin Man and Dakota Gold
Equiano, sire of star sprinters The Tin Man and Dakota Gold, is heading from Newsells Park to the Irish National Stud to continue his stud career, it was announced on Thursday.
The son of Acclamation has sired 12 Group winners to date, including the three-time Group 1 winner The Tin Man and Breeders' Cup Sprint scorer Belvoir Bay.
He is also responsible for the high-class Equilateral, a Listed winner and second to Battaash in this year's King's Stand Stakes, plus last year's Group 3 victor Gustavus Weston.
Newsells Park Stud, which recently announced that St James's Palace Stakes winner Without Parole would be joining the Hertfordshire-based operation, was standing the 15-year-old alongside Nathaniel, winner of the King George and Eclipse and famously the sire of the brilliant Enable.
Cathal Beale, CEO of the Irish National Stud, said: "We're delighted to offer Equiano to the Irish market at a time when solid, proven speed influences are ever more valued by breeders.
"He's an imposing individual with a great walk and, being completely free of Sadler’s Wells and Danzig blood, he's a great outcross option. Standing alongside Invincible Spirit, Equiano’s addition to our roster will mean we can offer Irish breeders two of the most prolific sources of speed available in Europe.”
Equiano's stud fee and terms will be set at a later date.
