York Placepot picks: Tom Collins provides his day one perm for the Dante meeting

York's Dante meeting kicks off with an ultra-competitive card, which begins with the 16-runner Jorvik Handicap (1.40).

This race is often won by a fast-improving four-year-old and therefore it would be foolish to leave out Ilaraab, who is on a six-timer for William Haggas. Course winners Sam Cooke and Mr Carpenter are also selected.

It doesn't get any easier in the following 6f handicap (2.10). Keith Dalgleish won this race in 2019 with Soldier's Minute, who returns for another crack. Stablemate Aberama Gold has a fitness edge and should also go close. Gulliver, who is running off 2lb lower than for his last success, is also taken.

Four-year-old Art Power should relish the ground in the Duke Of York Clipper Logistics Stakes (2.40). The Roger Varian-trained course winner Molatham is a solid back-up.

Pretty Polly winner Mystery Angel looks banker material against unexposed rivals in the Musidora (3.10). The trip and track should suit George Boughey's runner.

Trainer Hughie Morrison shows a £1 level-stakes profit with his runners at York and his Huddleton Mac gets a tick in the box in leg five (3.40). Recent Newmarket third Wobwobwob also has strong claims.

Second Wind, the sole previous winner in the 5f novice event (4.15), appears more than good enough to hit the frame despite carrying a penalty on his second start.
