Why it's hard to curb the enthusiasm for July Cup hero Limato at 3-1

Racing at York rarely fails to confuse. All year the winners on the sprint track have been drawn low and at the last meeting in July all bar one of the runners in the big 6f sprint handicap migrated to the far side.

On day one of the Ebor meeting, though, both sprints developed down the centre of the track with nobody wanting to go near the far rail, while in yesterday’s big sales-race winner also ran straight down the middle.

All sprint winners were again drawn low, though, which is encouraging for supporters of today’s Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes (3.40) favourite Limato, who is set to start from stall four.
