Wednesday banker: Melabi can return to winning ways

Suited by pouncing late off a strong pace when gunning down Mr Sundowner close home at Thirsk two starts ago.

Sent off a heavily backed 4-5 favourite (from 7-4) for a five-runner 1m4f handicap at Brighton last time, Melabi was ‘no offers’ when cruising onto the heels of Light Of Air two furlongs out, but his effort flattened out disappointingly and he could finish only second.

This drop to 1m2f on faster ground is likely to suit him better, as will the much bigger field, and a return to the winner’s enclosure looks likely.
