It seems plainly absurd that on the second Monday in July at the height of summer half of the four meetings in Britain will be staged on an artificial surface.

Punters are notoriously fickle, though, and I won’t be complaining if War Glory does the business in Chelmsford’s Totequadpot Handicap (4.15).
