It is not often we throw in one from a handicap hurdle, but this gelding ran a cracker after an absence of more than three years and he looks as if he could make a quick return on investment.

He was ridden quite close to the pace and came through to lead jumping the second-last only to be outgunned from the final flight by a race-fit and probably well-handicapped winner.

It was an encouraging performance from a horse who had not run since March 2015 and it showed why connections are persevering with him.
