Uttoxeter Placepot picks: Paul Kealy has a crack at the Midlands National card

Midlands National day opens with a weak enough heat (1.20) but , who couldn't handle bottomless ground at Lingfield last time, has the best form by a fair way and should make the first two for Placepot purposes.

It gets considerably harder after that but I'm pretty sure (1.50) is going to end his losing run soon and going back up in trip on better ground than last time, when he was a distant sixth, could bring out the best of him.

Course winner and the lightly-raced would be my other two.

The in-form should again go well in the third (2.25) with the capable Lucy Turner offsetting his 5lb rise with her 7lb claim, but only seven go, so we'll have another. Outsider shaped well on his return from a long layoff and could go well off his reduced mark.

is the main fancy in the next (3.00), while this is weaker than the race ran in last time and he should get the trip fine.

I'm all over in the Midlands National (3.35), while I think one of last season's placed horses, , who looks like he has been laid out for another crack at this, could be the main danger.

That just leaves the mares' handicap hurdle (4.10), in which , a good second last time, and , who has been running consistently at her level, would be the picks.
