US racing tips: Shane Ketteridge has two selections on Saturday night

Smooth Like Strait
8pm Santa Anita
1pt win

Scarabea
9pm Santa Anita
1pt each-way

The Santa Anita action starts with the Grade 2 Joe Hernandez Stakes run over 6½f on the turf, and one who stands out dropping back in trip is the classy Smooth Like Strait, who won a Grade 1 over a mile here last season and has enough speed for this.

Michael McCarthy's consistent five-year-old has some outstanding form in the book. He has finished in the first three in 19 of his 24 starts, with the majority of those runs coming at Grade 1 and Grade 2 level.

He is also a four-time winner at this course and won his maiden over 5½f here.

Smooth Like Strait's sire Midnight Lute was a Breeders' Cup Sprint winner, so the drop in trip makes sense as he hasn't won since last May.

A field of 11 fillies and mares go to post for the Grade 3 Robert J Frankel Stakes, in which the McCarthy-trained Queen Goddess will take plenty of beating. She is set to go off a short price, however, so it could pay to side with Scarabea, who looks to have been overlooked in the market.

This filly is improving as she gets older and her form figures here read 25, both runs coming in stakes company. She can hit the board at double-figure odds from a good draw in stall six.
