The three main stateside meetings on Sunday come from Gulfstream, Tampa Bay and Santa Anita, and I strongly fancy one runner from each venue.
We will kick off with the $50,000 maiden special weight (5.34) contest at Gulfstream, the second race on its card, where seven runners are set to tackle the 5f trip on the turf course, a course and distance that often favours those drawn towards the rail.
However, those drawn towards the rail look to have plenty of work on their hands to deal with the potentially classy Christophe Clement-trained Just For One Day, who is set to come out of the widest gate of all.
A four-year-old son of dual Grade 1 winner Will Take Charge, Just For One Day made his debut in a competitive $90,000 race at Belmont Park over 7f last June and showed up for a long way, dueling for the lead three-wide, before capitulating late on.
It's hard to evaluate that form as the majority of his opponents haven't run since, but this represents a marked step down in grade and Clement is known for improving his horses as they get older.
His early pace should enable him to bounce out and get a prominent position despite the drop in trip and I would be surprised if this illustriously bred colt didn't prove too good for his rivals, with recent work at Payson Park Training Centre indicating he is firing on all cylinders.
Another horse who has put in nice morning work recently is A Girls Bestfriend, who posted a 49-second flat workout over the 4f at Tampa Bay Downs at the start of the month and is set to run in the $12,500 claimer (6.19) at the track.
By Treasure Beach, who won the Irish Derby and Secretariat Stakes at Arlington in a glittering 2011 campaign when with Aidan O'Brien, A Girls Bestfriend has been racing in better contests on his most recent outings and has shown his best form over this mile trip.
His win over this course and distance in December was impressive (wide draw, drew clear) and he made an eyecatching move before being collared late a month later.
You can put a line through his latest effort in an allowance race on dirt and he appears to hold solid claims as he drops in class to a level he should be winning at.
The feature race of the day is the Sensational Star Stakes (11.00) at Santa Anita and it looks wide open.
However, the most likely winner is Just Grazed Me, who represents the powerful Phil D'Amato stable. She has never been out of the first three in 11 career starts and posted a career-best figure when second in the Sunshine Millions over this course and distance last time.
