Ultimate Avenue likely to be the one to gun down Escobar

THE two-year-olds take centre stage over the next three days at Newmarket and, while all the major action is on Saturday, we do have a horse who features relatively highly in the 2,000 Guineas and Derby betting on show in this afternoon's Tattersalls Stakes (3.40).

Hugo Palmer's Escobar is a general 25-1 shot for the 2017 Classics and that prices makes him joint third-favourite in the Derby, although that is more indicative of the fledgling nature of that race rather than his true standing in the pecking order.

Palmer sees him as more of a Guineas horse and hopes at some stage there will be "a point in the future where we need to find out if he stays a mile and a half".
