When I pick up my paper this morning and go through the racing results, I'm still not sure I'm going to believe the outcome of the two Group 1 races at Newmarket yesterday.

Of course Aidan O'Brien is a genius of a trainer, but even on Brave Anna's Royal Ascot form she had little chance of winning the Cheveley Park - and even less after two subsequent average displays over 7f. However, it just goes to show how vital the ground is to some horses and how important the sires are too.

It is easy to be wise after the event but the sire War Front's progeny have such a marked preference for a quick surface that it was nigh on certain Brave Anna was going to improve massively on her first attempt on fast ground.
