Tom Segal heads to Epsom with three bankers for his Placepot perm
The hardest leg of the Epsom Placepot might be the opening nursery (1.40). All eight runners can be given a chance so it is probably best to include a couple.
Paul and Oliver Cole have some good juvenile talent this season and, while Majestic Newlaw wouldn't be anywhere near the best of them he is steadily improving and will appreciate the step up to 7f.
Similar sentiments apply to Daydream Dancer, who was runner-up to Rockfel third Rage Of Bamby at Leicester last time.
Charlie Appleby's Castle Way picks himself in the 1m½f conditions stakes (2.15). The trainer has left five in the Vertem Futurity, four of whom have already won in Listed or Group company. Castle Way is the other.
Palavecino is dropping in class and might be hard to catch in the 1m2f handicap (2.50). He is a class above these at his best and is dropping quickly in the weights. Add in The Whipmaster as insurance, though.
The feature race on the card is the Apprentices' Derby (3.25). The consistent Tartan Chief looks an ideal Placepot horse, but this is competitive and the well-treated Captain Haddock goes in as well.
Two sons of Kingman stand out in the 1m2f three-year-old novice (4.00), but as Dukedom has a penalty for winning at Newcastle last time, Chantico is preferred for the red-hot Roger Varian team.
The third banker is New Pursuit in the 1m½f handicap (4.30). He is unbeaten in two starts at this track and was back to form at Windsor last time.
