Tom Collins analyses the credentials of four favourites at Gulfstream Park
Setting The Mood
5.45 Gulfstream Park
SP forecast 5-2
Bought for $145,000 as a two-year-old, Setting The Mood made her debut for trainer Todd Pletcher at this track in March after a whole host of works. She wasn't fancied in the market but ran well to finish second in a bunched finish, beating the reopposing Ocean Air and Act Like Artie.
Conclusion Think Ocean Air will show a bigger jolt of improvement. Take her on despite good draw.
Flying Aletha
6.15 Gulfstream Park
SP forecast 8-5
By dual Breeders' Cup Classic winner Tiznow out of an Uncle Mo mare, Flying Aletha will need much further than this 4½f trip in time. Wesley Ward hasn't had the same success with his juveniles so far this year but she has worked well, is drawn in gate two and is the chosen mount of Irad Ortiz.
Conclusion Hard to take her on so will just watch this one.
Brasstown
6.45 Gulfstream Park
SP forecast 9-5
Allowance optional claimer winner here in December 2018, Brasstown hasn't been heavily raced since and has generally competed at a much higher level than this. Dropped to a claimer last time and set the pace before fading, but that was on turf. Recent works have been much better.
Conclusion Best horse in this field and can make all.
Mountain Breeze
8.16 Gulfstream Park
SP forecast 5-2
Big, scopey gelding who has obviously taken some time to fill out and mature. Showed very little on debut in maiden special weight company last July but wasn't unfancied in the market and probably didn't handle the dirt and sprint trip. Much better after a long break last time on turf. Had a troubled passage that day so mark up the effort.
Conclusion Drawn poorly but ran with plenty of promise last time. Today could be his day.
