He has been plying his trade in lesser company and is 5lb out of the handicap, but Arabescato has been crying out for this trip for over a year.

He was a winner last spring at Pontefract over 2m2f and even that trip did not look like it provided an adequate test. Finishing second on his two most recent Flat runs, he arrives in excellent form and his guaranteed stamina is an obvious positive.

Tyler Heard's 3lb claim will be a huge help and the form of John Butler's string is no bad thing either. When the 'classier' horses start to wain, he will be doing all his best work, and I think a place is well within reach.

I implore you to take a look back at Rhoscolyn's run in last year's Golden Mile, because it still has me pulling my hair out.

He was blocked for room at several crucial stages and when he did finally get into the clear, the race was effectively over. With Harry Davies' 5lb claim in mind, he is effectively 6lb lower this year on his bid for redemption.

I'm not overly convinced he stays a conventional mile, but this sharp test evidently suits him and he is unexposed over the trip. He also thrives when he is kept busy and if there is going to be a day for him in a big handicap, it will be today.
