The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with two to follow on Thursday
BANKER
Endlessly(5.55 Newmarket)
This three-year-old Nathaniel colt has obviously been highly regarded since before he made his debut in November, where he was sent off the 100-30 favourite. He found that experience all too much to handle and finished tenth, and struggled again two months later when well-backed once more before finishing fifth at Kempton. That run was extremely eyecatching, however, as he barely raised a gallop for the first furlong and fairly rattled home late in the day. He has since filled that berth twice more at Newbury and Sandown, and this now rates his easiest opportunity to date. I'm certain a mark of 73 underestimates him and he could take this en route to bigger things.
EYECATCHER
Van Gerwen (5.35 Pontefract)
Les Eyre's team are in fine form with a 30 per cent strike-rate in the last two weeks (3-10) – one of those victories courtesy of Van Gerwen, who has a great chance of following up at Pontefract. The five-year-old was given an ice-cool ride from Danny Tudhope at Beverley eight days ago to get up in the last stride and, although he's now 3lb wrong at the weights, he's in the form of his life and can win this race for the second time in three years. His draw in stall three will allow him to sit prominently on the rail, and I'd expect him challenge as the round the bend for home.
