There isn't a real standout in the Curragh Cup this season and although Aidan O'Brien has won five of the last six editions of the race, a stat that would usually sway me to selecting one of his runners, he doesn't look to have an overly strong hand this time around. Instead the prize can go to son Joseph, who sends out Latrobe after just a ten-day layoff since finishing fourth in the Wolferton at Royal Ascot. It was an extremely strong edition of the Ascot Listed contest and he caught the eye with his finishing effort, which should stand him in good stead now stepping back up in distance on preferred ground. The quick turnaround shouldn't be a problem and this former Irish Derby winner holds a clear class edge.
