The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with three to follow on Wednesday

Torcedor is not far from winning one of the major staying prizes this season

BANKER

Poet's Princess (6.20 Bath)

Now is the time to get stuck in to Hughie Morrison's four-year-old Poet's Princess. The daughter of Poet's Voice started last season in the Group 3 Fred Darling Stakes and following a rather disappointing season (although she did finish second in a competitive Class 2 handicap in May), she dropped to a mark of 77. She ran a nice race on her seasonal reappearance at Windsor last month when showing blistering pace only to fade late on and she's leniently been dropped a further 2lb by the Handicapper on the back of that. Surprisingly, she now finds herself in Class 5 company and with conditions to suit, she should take all the beating.

EYECATCHER

Torcedor (3.10 Ascot)

The six-runner Sagaro Stakes is quite a trappy affair but it may pay to stick with the class act, Torcedor, who makes the trip over from Ireland for trainer Jessica Harrington. This former Group 3 winner has really come into his own over staying trips and ran his two career-best races around this time last year, which included beating Order Of St George in the Vintage Crop Stakes at Naas. His three trips over to Ascot have yielded form figures of 552 (the last two in Group 1 company) and you can dismiss his run at Meydan in March when he clearly wasn't right.

EACH-WAY PLAY

Professor(4.55 Ascot)

There will be plenty of value about in this 20-runner apprentice handicap – not my normal choice of betting median – but an each-way bet on Professor looks too good to refuse. The eight-year-old gelding is exceptionally well handicapped on his old form (42lb lower than his last success) and, although he's 2lb wrong at the weights, he's shown in two all-weather starts this year that he maintains some of his old ability and should appreciate the return to turf. His draw in stall 19 is a slight concern, however.
