The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with four to follow on Boxing Day
BIG-RACE BANKER
Native River(3.05 Kempton)
Merry Christmas – it's the King George! The last two winners, Might Bite and Thistlecrack, are back again to try and land the race for a second time, while Politologue, Bristol De Mai and Waiting Patiently are looking to write their names in the history books. However, at the prices I fancy the Colin Tizzard-trained gutsy, determined Native River. Winner of 11 starts, this fantastic eight-year-old has proved himself to be the pinnacle of staying chasing and ran a really respectable race on his seasonal reappearance in the Betfair Chase. Granted, this probably isn't the best track for him, but he should be shorter in the market and is going to be there or thereabouts.
BANKER
Southfield Torr(12.20 Wincanton)
This five-year-old is yet to develop enough mentally to prove a force in decent races, but he has a big engine and looks extremely well treated on handicap debut if he goes about his business. Despite his tendency to hang, Southfield Torr has been beaten small distances the last twice in good maiden and novice hurdles at Taunton and now tackles inferior opposition. Bryony Frost, who works her magic on a regular occurrence, takes over in the saddle and he should score with plenty in hand.
GOOD THING
Nigh Or Never (3.30 Market Rasen)
Ian Williams and Tom O'Brien are going to have it off at Market Rasen. The pair have five runners at the track and the best looks to be this former Rebecca Curtis-trained individual. Winless in 11 career starts, Nigh Or Never showed plenty in a maiden hurdle at Hereford in January before finding life tough in handicap company off a mark of 120. His mark has dropped 5lb since and he rates a fair bet on his easiest task to date.
EYECATCHER
Dorking Cock (1.00 Wetherby)
This 0-110 handicap is a poor contest for the grade and Tom Lacey's Dorking Cock looks chucked in on handicap debut off a mark of 112 – the only downside is he has to carry 12st. Well punted before finishing fourth in the extremely hot Goffs bumper at Newbury in March, Dorking Cock has shown ability over hurdles without challenging the judge in three starts since but should be helped by the step back up in trip.
