The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Thursday afternoon
BANKER
Papa Power(2.30 Newcastle)
Well-bred Nathaniel colt who represents the in-form Andrew Balding stable (4-10 last two weeks). He was well beaten when looking green and clueless on debut in January (third won since) but readily made amends next time, making all over this trip at Chelmsford under a good ride from Silvestre de Sousa. He looked much more professional that time and quickened up smartly when asked. He has a great chance of following up here in what looks a match race with the similarly-penalised Da Vinci, and the race may play in Papa Power's favour if he takes a lead from his main rival.
GOOD THING
Carnwennan(3.40 Newcastle)
Improving five-year-old stayer who rattled off a hat-trick (two wins on the all-weather, one on good to firm turf) between May and June last year, going from a mark of 79 to 94. Hasn't won in four starts since but put in a career-best effort when a narrow second at Kempton last time and appears to still be on the upgrade. The handicapper has put him up just 1lb for that (back to 94) and this course-and-distance winner could easily outclass the lightly-weighted Padleyourowncanoe.
