The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Super Saturday
EYECATCHER
Australis(3.35 Newcastle)
With just 8st 2lb on his back, the eye is immediately drawn to the unexposed Australis, who has recorded both of his successes on the all-weather and is surely better than a mark of 86. Roger Varian, who has been firing on all cylinders in the last couple of weeks, appears to have lined up this son of Australia for the Northumberland Plate and he couldn't have run a much better prep race than when he beat the reopposing Caravan Of Hope by half a length at Wolverhampton earlier this month. The extra distance and longer straight will play into his favour and he is the worthy market leader.
BANKER
A $500,000 yearling purchase from the Keeneland sales in 2017, Mubakker, who boasts a lovely US pedigree being by Speightstown out of a Grade 2-winning mare who was at her best over 7f on the dirt, appears to be a sharp upward trajectory and can take this Group 3 Chipchase Stakes in his stride en route to bigger and better things. Bred to be at his best on the all-weather, Mubakker is unbeaten in three races on the synthetic surfaces and was mightily impressive when winning here at the start of the month. He was favourite when withdrawn from the Wokingham at Royal Ascot last week and looks likely to take his record to four wins from six starts.
EACH-WAY PLAY
Sherpa (7.15 Curragh)
This year's edition of the Irish Derby looks pretty weak and although Santiago is the clear form choice on the back of an impressive success in the Queen's Vase last week, the quick reappearance the fact he was said to be rock-hard fit going into Ascot puts me off him at the prices. The interesting one in the field with the most improvement likely could be Sherpa, who made an eyecatching debut for Donnacha O'Brien when third in the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes at this venue 15 days ago and should thrive over this longer trip. He was staying on takingly when hampered in the final furlong and wasn't beaten far by Crossfirehurricane. Hopefully he can reverse that form and run into the places.
GOOD THING
Master Of Reality (7.45 Curragh)
Last year's Irish Derby winner Sovereign will be all the rage in the early market but he got the run of the race out in front in the Classic last year and may need the run after a year off the track, so I'm happy to take him on with the Joseph O'Brien-trained Master Of Reality. This five-year-old is probably being teed up for a trip to Australia later in the year, but he won this race on his reappearance last year and clearly goes pretty well fresh.
