BANKER

Champagne Court (1.15 Sandown)

Jeremy's Scott six-year-old contested some of the best novice hurdles last season and although he only won one of seven starts, he wasn't beaten far by the likes of Beakstown, Angels Breath and finished fourth of 24 at the Cheltenham Festival. That came in the Martin Pipe, where he stayed on stoutly from the rear off a mark of 126 – a rating that would prove lenient if he ran in less competitive affairs. He enjoyed a great start to the season when finishing second in the 16-runner Silver Trophy at Chepstow, a race that has already thrown up two subsequent winners and a couple of places, and this rates his easiest task in a long time.

DARK HORSE

(2.55 Sandown)

Last year's winner Totterdown is feared as he makes his first start for the in-form Fergal O'Brien but his price is too short and therefore he is worth taking on. The value lies with Shut The Box, a big, scopey son of Doyen who showed promise in a couple of bumpers before being beaten 22 lengths behind Champion Hurdle prospect Pentland Hills on hurdling debut at Plumpton. He readily got off the mark on his next outing before failing to stay 2m3f on his return at Fontwell. The handicapper is taking few chances by awarding him a mark of 125 based on his efforts to date, but we could easily be talking about a horse rated 140 by the end of the season.
