The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Saturday afternoon
BANKER
Goring(2.00 Lingfield)
Talented eight-year-old who has won five races on turf and five on the all-weather but has a considerably better strike-rate on the synthetic surfaces. All of his victories since December 2017 have come at this track (four times over a mile, once of 7f) and he has run well on both starts over a mile since returning from a break in the autumn. His latest second behind Another Touch, who has won a good fast-track qualifier since, was right up there with his best efforts in recent times and this looks easier. I fancy him to get back to winning ways from a nice draw.
GOOD THING
Shan Blue (2.25 Warwick)
Highly regarded and clearly talented hurdler for the Dan Skelton team, who have won this race twice in the last five years. Shan Blue showed clear signs of promise on his debut in a bumper here in March (winner and second unbeaten since) and was only narrowly denied by a subsequent Grade 2 winner when finishing second on his hurdling debut in November after a long break. His bad luck continued when falling at Newbury in a hot novice on his next outing (travelling best at the time) before hacking up when last seen at Southwell. This is a big leap up the class ladder but he has an infinite amount of potential and looks a horse who could well go places.
DARK HORSE
Prolific seven-year-old who has won six of 13 career starts but continues to be rather underestimated in the market. Stoney Mountain had a cracking novice hurdling campaign last year, winning twice and finishing in the money in two Grade 2 contests later in the season, and returned as good as ever with victories at Aintree and in a Grade 3 at Haydock this autumn. Connections decided to go down the chasing route, which clearly didn't pay off last time when unseating his rider after making countless errors, but he reverts back to hurdles today off just a 5lb higher mark and surely the track and trip will be right up his street. I made him favourite so was surprised to see an opening price of 8-1.
