The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on day one of Goodwood
BANKER
Mark Johnston often targets his horses at Glorious Goodwood handicaps and that looks to be the case with Tulip Fields, who wasn't beaten far into third in a maiden at this meeting last year and has won her only subsequent start here, romping home on her reappearance this year to win by a length and a half. She supplemented that score at Newmarket, but has disappointed the last twice and the handicapper has dropped her 1lb. A mark of 91 is surely lenient for this talented filly, who should be able to enhance her good record at the course in the finale.
EYECATCHER
David O'Meara and Danny Tudhope won this 1m2f handicap last year with Fayez, who rallied well from the back of the pack, and they can repeat the feat 12 months on thanks to the eyecatching Tinandali. Formerly trained by Dermot Weld, Tinandali showed he was well handicapped off a mark of 100 on debut for his new connections when second to Nicholas T at Ayr in June and has caught the eye with strong late finishes on his last couple of outings off 2lb higher. This track should suit and providing that he can find a clear passage, he will be extremely tough to hold.
GOOD THING
Celsius(3.45 Goodwood)
There are a few early-pace merchants – Caspian Prince, Ornate, Recon Mission, A Momentofmadness and Acclaim The Nation – in this 5f sprint and they look likely to set it up for a closer. Celsius is the one that stands out given he has been crying out for a race of this nature and boasts an exceptional turn of foot if he can settle in the opening stages. Although he doesn't have the best draw, Celsius, the mount of Andrea Atzeni, is handicapped to win off his mark of 91 and is proven at the track courtesy of a victory in the Tatler Handicap 12 months ago.
