The Punt Daily: Robbie Wilders' two horse racing tips at Newbury on Saturday

GOOD THING

Thunderous (1.50 Newbury)

The Charlie and Mark Johnston-trained Thunderous has scope to develop into a pretty smart five-year-old and hopefully a gelding operation can bring about a bit of improvement for this keen-going sort. His last-time-out Hardwicke Stakes fourth at Royal Ascot could hardly have worked out better and with plenty of hold-up performers in opposition for the John Porter Stakes, Christophe Soumillon could steal a soft lead. That would make him tough to beat and he comes out best on official ratings too.

EYECATCHER

Rogue Bear (3.35 Newbury)

The Lincoln is always a race worth following closely and Rogue Bear was the big eyecatcher of the race in this season's running three weeks ago. Rogue Bear made serious inroads from way off the pace after missing the kick to capture third and there was a major draw bias as he was the only horse in a double-figure stall (19) to finish in the first seven. This Kodiac gelding, who was highly progressive at the end of his three-year-old campaign, seems to have improved again and it is slightly surprising the handicapper has left his mark of 87 unchanged from the promising Doncaster run.
