The Punt Acca: Mark Boylan's three horse racing tips on Saturday
Grocer Jack (1.50 Newbury)
There should be improvement to come from this talented campaigner's recent return from a break at Chantilly, as he drops into Listed company after sampling a Group 2 last time. Making just his second start since joining William Haggas, he didn't run badly in a slightly messy race but has proven ability as a dual Group 3 winner for his previous German-based connections. He boasts a generally dependable profile and is arguably more consistent than main market rival Cadilliac, who must concede weight to the entire field. This ten-furlong trip is ideal for Grocer Jack and he could yet have progression to come in the care of this top stable.
Little Big Bear (2.03 Curragh)
It was a shame we didn't get to see this high-class juvenile at Newmarket's July festival due to unsuitably quick ground, but this looks an even better opportunity for him to follow up his smart success in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot. Always highly thought of by connections, he has improved with each start and sets a decent standard in this Group 3 event. Slan Abhaile and Yosemite Valley are promising individuals who warrant respect, but their lack of experience compared to Little Big Bear is a major plus for the selection.
Quarantine Dreams (2.35 Curragh)
Returning to the Curragh and stepping up to 6½f should bring out the best in this likely well-treated sprinter, who brings some useful Listed form to the table and has shown up well at this track before. Hopes of this largely unexposed four-year-old running a big race in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot were scuppered by a low draw in stall 2 - the first five home were drawn 19, 29, 31, 28 and 27. A fast 5f at Tipperary last time possibly wouldn't have been his optimum, but he still ran creditably only to be denied by useful stablemate Moss Tucker. A mark of 98 looks workable on the pick of his form, the in-form Billy Lee takes the mount and a strongly-run race should play to his strengths.
