The Evening Punt: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Thursday

BANKER

Mojave(7.45 Wolverhampton)

Roger Charlton's gelding looked a surefire winner over staying trips when sticking on encouragingly to take seventh on debut in December last year but took four further attempts to finally get his head in front and became rather frustrating. He did, however, bump into a couple of useful performers, including when beaten by a subsequent winner in August, and readily got off the mark in a bad race when last seen. He was expected to win that comfortably (sent off at 1-3), but he won by a whopping 35 lengths and that will surely help his confidence. He now enters handicap company off a workable mark of 75 and is a worthy favourite.

GOOD THING

Sophar Sogood (5.30 Chelmsford)

A wide draw has meant Sophar Sogood is underestimated in the market but I certainly wouldn't let that factor put you off this recent Southwell winner, who is certainly on the improve. Paul D'Arcy's three-year-old relished his first start in handicap company off a mark of 50 following three heavy novice defeats and came through with a sweeping late run to win comfortably at the line. The second that day was proven on the surface and fancied to win, but Sophar Sogood asserted in the style of a runner well ahead of his rating. A 6lb rise shouldn't stop him, though it is taken on trust he can repeat that effort on a different surface.
