The ITV cameras at Newbury promise a bigger pool, which in turns justifies a more generous outlay. Small stakers may wish to explore the smaller unit stakes now offered by the Tote.

Leg one is less about taking on Flinteur Sacre than aiming at the spots behind him. My Drogo and Sir Sholokhov are both likely to need further in time, but have shown enough speed and professionalism respectively.

The 12.45 is competitive and two will again be needed. It is only hoped that Editeur Du Gite and Financier do not take one another on. A more safety-first approach seems best in five-runner leg three, with Bothwell Bridge and Real Stone preferred.
