John Size has consolidated his position at the top of the trainers’ standings, and Champion’s Way can give him another winner in the Group 3 Lion Rock Trophy (9.40) in his quest for an 11th title.

With 12 meetings remaining this season, Size (68 wins) leads nearest rival John Moore by eight, and is now producing horses he has carefully placed, possibly with an end-of-term championship tussle at the back of his mind.

Champion’s Way has been one of the discoveries of the season, winning his first five races before being mugged by a neck on his last start by stablemate Red Warrior, who reopposes on 3lb worse terms.

It is interesting the mount of Joao Moreira didn’t race before January 30 but has been able to work through the classes and progress from 6f to a mile with relative ease.

Red Warrior again warrants consideration and can be expected to finish well, while Ka Ying Star felt the heavy hand of the handicapper for making all from a wide draw on his last start and faces a tougher task this time.

Moreira and Size can also strike with Raging Storm in the 6f handicap (10.50).

Raging Storm won twice at the end of last year before taking a short break. His first run back was a nice pipe-opener when finishing well for seventh in an unsuitable 5f sprint and could overcome his wide draw here.

The other betting opportunity comes when Band Of Brothers steps out in the mile handicap (9.10).

Trainer Paul O’Sullivan has done a fine job allowing the gelding time to mature and connections are now reaping the benefits.

He can notch his third win of the season, and as a strong finisher his wide draw is not a concern.
