Shalaa should account for Group 3 rivals on first start of year

3.05 Ascot
SP forecast 6-4
Won five out of six starts as a two-year-old last year, including two Group 1s in the Prix Morny and Middle Park. Was all set for a sprinting campaign when he suffered a pelvic injury back in April, hence this delayed return to action. Fully recovered now, he holds a serious class edge on two-year-old form compared to his rivals (none would have been within a stone of him as juveniles) but can't be expected to be razor-sharp against these hardened speedsters, so it's not straightforward.
Conclusion Beaten on first run last term and could be caught cold, but has to rate a banker if anywhere near his best.
Alice Springs 4.00 Newmarket
SP forecast 6-4
Progressive three-year-old for Aidan O'Brien throughout this term. Followed up a fine third over course and distance in the 1,000 Guineas with two Group 1 victories over the summer, in the Falmouth Stakes and a most impressive victory last time in the Matron at Leopardstown. Fancied for a third top-level victory after that and fast ground clearly suits, but faces a strong international contingent.
Conclusion Not a clear pick on form and no value on forecast price given the strength of opposition.
