Raising Sand can storm home in Balmoral Handicap

Raising Sand
Trainer: Jamie Osborne

3rd, Ascot, October 7
Seven of the first nine home in this valuable 7f handicap came from off the pace so it might be worth rating up the performances of those who were in the firing line throughout. Raising Sand was always in a prominent position in the quartet on the far side. When asked for maximum effort two out he soon opened up an advantage of a couple of lengths but he surrendered the lead inside the final furlong. He is just as effective over a mile so will now presumably be aimed at the Balmoral Handicap back at this course in eight days.

Mjjack
Karl Burke
6th, Ascot, October 7
Another who ran well under a positive ride in the same handicap as Raising Sand. Mjjack is a strong galloper who was nipping at the heels of the leaders at halfway and was still on terms a furlong from home. He has a good attitude and when next able to dominate over his preferred distance of 7f is going to be a difficult horse to get past.

Bletchley
Ralph Beckett
2nd, Ascot, October 7
This three-year-old filly had a lot of ground to make up at halfway in this 7f Listed race and she made relentless progress in the last quarter mile to be beaten only a length and a quarter. Not for the first time she gave the impression she will improve for a step up in distance to a mile. This was her first race for two months and she might be sharper next time. She acts on soft ground.
