William Haggas’s TALLOW put up a good performance to win the first division of the 7f novice event at Southwell last Tuesday, as not only did she do so in a time nearly half a second quicker than the second leg, she was also carrying a 7lb penalty for her victory in a soft-ground Doncaster maiden on her previous start.

She saw the extra furlong out well and is clearly a useful prospect, but there was also plenty to like about the performance of MAGNETIC BOUNDARY on his debut. George Scott’s colt is bred to handle this sort of surface and managed to finish just a length behind the more experienced winner, while there was nine lengths back to the third.
