An all-weather fixture on a Wednesday at Sha Tin is indeed proof that the Jockey Club caters for all types in Hong Kong.

Stick with dirt specialists – horses and stables – to find winners on this tricky eight-race card.

Trainer Me Tsui has done well with his horses on the dirt and could be in for a good night, particularly if Winner Supreme (3.15) produces the form that saw him notch a runaway five-length win on the surface last time.

The Australian-bred three-year-old has won two of his four outings, and although he is 11lb higher than last time and steps up in class he still stands out in this 6f handicap.

Tsui also saddles the maiden Very Sweet Orange (1.45) in a Class 4 6f handicap, who is one of the best bets on the card.

Very Sweet Orange is without a win in 11 starts but closer examination of his career indicates he has abundant early speed that enables him to burn off his rivals.

Despite a failure on dirt last year he trialled brilliantly on the surface in mid-February and has since turned in two solid efforts on turf. He is ready for this.

The talented Alfred KH Chan claims a generous 10lb, and the opposition may not be able to reel Very Sweet Orange in this time.

Frankie Lor does brilliantly with all categories of horse, but he is another whose record on dirt is also exceptional.

Coby Oppa (1.15) is tipped to continue Lor’s good run on the all-weather track by landing a Class 3 6f handicap for Karis Teetan.

The three-year-old won over course and distance in February and has since run respectably on turf. He can make his mark again.
