Could the horse who let me down last year now be the next great stayer?

What makes a bad bet? I suppose any bet that doesn’t win could be considered a poor wager but there are plenty that we all have that are good ones, with good reasoning and thought processes, that don’t come to fruition.

For example, almost a year ago to the day I struck an ante-post bet on the 2021 Derby, and while he didn’t run up I’m more convinced than ever that my thinking behind having a few quid on Kyprios was sound in judgment and not one of those no-hoper bets that we often strike.

Of course I don’t think for one minute he would have beaten Adayar or Hurricane Lane in what turned out to be a really strong renewal, but after winning a good race at Cork and given his pedigree I was of the opinion that Kyprios was going to stay the mile and half really strongly and had the class to be at least as good as a Serpentine, an Anthony Van Dyck or a Wings Of Eagles.
