Paul Kealy provides his Tote Placepot perm at Haydock

Credit: Edward Whitaker

The Tote Placepot isn't going to be easy at any of the turf tracks in Britain due to the number of runners and/or ground conditions, but Haydock is the chosen track for Friday's attempt.

John Gosden's Swift Verdict might be a false favourite in the opener (12.00) as he flopped on his second start, and while there might be a reason for that, the form of his first effort hasn't worked out that well either.

Instead, I'll take last-time-out winner King's Charisma, who bolted up at Redcar and was a non-runner on quick ground last week, which is a good sign considering it will be slow here.

Zambezi Magic, who looks like he wants this step up in trip, is the other pick at a bigger price.

We'd better go with two in the seven-runner novice event (12.30). Kohinoor would be my pick of the two with experience, while Whatitizz, by one of last season's leading first-crop sires in Britain (Cable Bay) and trained by the in-form James Ferguson, is the other suggestion. Oisin Murphy's four rides for the stable last month finished 3113.

Broughtons Gold still has plenty of potential off a mark of 78 and is banker material in the next (1.00), while Marietta Robusti looks solid enough in the next (1.30). She likes the track and soft ground, ran right up to her mark last week at Hamilton and is well handicapped on her form from a couple of seasons ago.

A couple of novice races close out the bet, which is not ideal, but soft ground experience could be key and William Bligh (2.00) has already run twice. His first run was better than his first and it came in testing conditions, too, so it will take a fair effort for three to beat him.

In the last (2.30), Sermon doesn't have the same level of promise of a few of his rivals but he has bags of experience and handles soft ground.

It is also worth taking a chance is on William Haggas's Bint Australia on debut. The shrewd trainer is 23-60 in three-year-old non handicaps at Haydock, while a further 20 have made the frame.
