Newmarket Placepot picks: Paul Kealy provides his perm for July Cup day

We're almost totally in the dark for the opening leg (1.30) of the Placepot at Newmarket as only one of the fillies has had a run.

Add the fact there are no Godolphin contenders (four wins in the past eight years) and it becomes tricky to sort them out.

My two guesses are , whose sister Antonia De Vega was introduced by Ralph Beckett to win this in 2018, and for the Gosden team who are in such good form.

in the next (2.05) has not beaten much, but has looked useful in doing so. I will also add as back-up as she ran into a well-treated rival last time.

is the solid one in the third (2.40), but I do think outsider is capable of more and he goes in as well.

Charlie Appleby tends to aim one of his best juveniles at the Superlative (3.15), but has looked potentially useful on his first two starts and gets the nod.

The big races come next and I'm not going mad in the Bunbury Cup (3.50) as I'm not convinced it's that competitive.

has to go in as he's 8lb well-in after his Jersey sixth, while will be on the premises if running as well as he did at Ascot.

I've backed Alcohol Free in the July Cup (4.25), but won't deny it's more in hope than expectation, so the Commonwealth Cup one-two of and would be my picks.
