Newcastle Placepot picks: Paul Kealy tackles the All-Weather Championships card
There are three obvious contenders for Newcastle's opener (1.30), but with only two places I wouldn't necessarily want to bank.
is the form horse after his Autumn Stakes second and Futurity fifth, but I'll add the race-fit , a winner on Polytrack at Chelmsford recently, whose sire has a terrific record on Tapeta (25 per cent strike-rate at Wolverhampton and 17.5 per cent at Newcastle).
My Oberon is the right favourite for the next (2.00), but needs to recover from a recent trip to Meydan, so I'll take him on with and .
The make-up of the third (2.35) strongly favours , who is the best horse on the figures, so I shall risk banking on him despite the size of the field.
is the one to beat in leg four (3.10), but I'd be happy to bet isn't far behind him, if at all, and at least one of that pair should get us through.
is very much the form filly in a disappointing line-up for the next (3.45), and as she has officially at least 13lb in hand of all but one of her rivals, she'll do.
That leaves a far more competitive closing staying event (4.15) to deal with.
Sleeping Lion is a deserved favourite on form, but so far his better efforts have come on Polytrack rather than Tapeta (not many tries on the latter), so I'll take him on.
has taken surprisingly well to all-weather Flat racing, while has been fifth in a Northumberland Plate and fourth in a Group 3 Sagaro at this track.
