Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's six meetings
Thursday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team
Aintree
4.05: Porlock Bay
The first four from last year's renewal all return and Latenightpass could turn the tables on Cousin Pascal but all four might do well to figure quite as strongly this time. Jett (second choice) could take some catching if adopting the tactics that saw him lead the Grand National field for a long way but preference is for Porlock Bay (nap), a class performer who, having been unable to defend his Cheltenham crown, has been aimed at this. Drumconnor Lad and Reikers Island could run well at a price.
Jonathan Neesom
Chelmsford
6.45: Mashaan
The Alice Haynes-trained Mashaan (nap) got out sharply from the same stall eight when readily making all over course and distance last week and should take a bit of pegging back under a penalty if showing up here in the same form. Got No Dollars and Legende D'Art have good recent all-weather records and can give the selection most to think about.
Andrew Sheret
Ffos Las
4.25: Abaya Du Mathan
David Pipe's ten-year-old Abaya Du Mathan (nap) has plummeted down the weights since his arrival from France in the autumn but he pulled a long way clear of the others when second to a stablemate at Wincanton last week and could be difficult to beat off the same mark here. Caswell Bay drops in grade after a good second at Chepstow in February but his overall profile is not convincing and he'd appeal more on slower ground. A bigger threat to the selection may come from Do It For Thy Sen.
Chris Wilson
Gowran Park
7.00: Abstract
Having run a sound race on seasonal debut at Navan last week in a stronger contest than this, Abstract (nap) can get off the mark today. Decent hurdler Scalor can appreciate getting back on turf, while Vischio is well-treated if near her best.
Tyrone Molloy
Limerick
1.55: Champagne Town
The 109-rated Run For Pat appears set to standard among those who have run over hurdles. Having fetched a big price after a point-to-point win, Champagne Town(nap) can build on his third placing in a bumper at Leopardstown. Golas Tiep and Toofareastiswest may prove best of the remainder.
Alan Sweetman
Taunton
4.20: Red Happy
Most of these find winning difficult. Red Happy(nap) turned the corner in a big way last week and he's taken to defy a penalty. Fulgurix got stuck in the mud last time and he could be the main threat, ahead of Boagrius.
