Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's seven meetings
Saturday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team
Ascot
1.25: Eldar Eldarov
Trueshan bids to win this race for a third year in a row and he will surely have his ground, but he'll need to be a good deal better than when Coltrane held him off in the Doncaster Cup last time out. His trainer's conclusion that day was that Trueshan had been "frightened to let himself down" after his run on good ground the time before. If he fails to deliver his best this time as well, there are two strong candidates to take advantage in last month's St Leger winner Eldar Eldarov (nap), who looks firmly set for further improvement now that he tries 2m, and his fellow three-year-old, the notably progressive Waterville. It remains to be seen whether the very classy Quickthorn can bounce back from his heavy defeat in the Cadran just two weeks ago.
Richard Austen
Catterick
3.15: Vintage Clarets
Options have opened up for Chipstead now he has proved himself on slower ground and he should make a bold bid to follow up his Portland success. Count D'Orsay (second choice) has plenty in his favour in his bid to improve his fine record in this race, while King Of Tonga, Motagally and the dangerously well-handicapped Significantly are others of interest. Vintage Clarets (nap) may have bumped into one at York last week, though, and the way he powered through that race offers hope that he has a nice prize in him off his current mark.
Paul Smith
Leopardstown
2.35: Tea Olive
Noel Meade has four entered for this and the Colin Keane-partnered Tea Olive (nap) is chosen to score on nursery bow having caught the eye in a Galway maiden during the summer. Stablemate Grange Lady is also noted along while Tiymara, unfortunate to slip up at Listowel, represents a yard that has been doing notably well in this type of race this term.
Mark Nunan
Market Rasen
3.37: Tamaroc Du Mathan
Last year's runner-up Guy looks set to run another big race but Tamaroc Du Mathan (nap) is probably still on a good mark after his Plumpton win in May and he might be seen to even better effect on this right-handed track. Summer Plate fourth Rapid Response also features prominently in calculations.
Chris Wilson
Newton Abbot
4.35: Boothill
All four of these could pay their way over fences. Boothill (nap) hasn't hit the heights that he promised to as a novice but he looks on a very tempting mark for this return to chasing. Silent Revolution is next best.
Jonathan Neesom
Stratford
3.54: Progressive
It wasn't much of a race that Progressive (nap) won last time but she did so by 16l and a 6lb rise could have been worse. Lady Jane P and My Little Toni are the standout dangers.
Alistair Jones
Wolverhampton
7.30: Sonnerie Power
Old Port (second choice) and Desert Emperor have very good course records and can be expected to go well back here but they may struggle to live with unexposed three-year-old Sonnerie Power (nap). The selection shot clear on his Lingfield handicap debut last month and the second boosted the form when scoring at Windsor this week.
