Diderot is still on a fair mark but he fluffed his lines at Newcastle a fortnight ago. To The Bar shaped well at Lingfield last month but none appeals more than Fantasy Believer. All three of his wins have come over C&D and he was a shade unfortunate not to make it four on his stable debut two weeks ago. Compensation awaits.

There should be more to come from the lightly raced and well-bred Alrehb, who looks capable of defying a 2lb rise for his Wolverhampton win. Second choice is Pinwheel, who may be capable of progress in Britain. Gobi Sunset, Sir Oliver and Thapa Vc are also in the mix.

Several of these come into the race on the up and the pick of them could be A Distant Place who would have gone close last time but for a bad mistake late on. She was last of four at Hereford 18 days but that was a warm race and Fiveandtwenty has a good chance here if judged on her earlier second in a fairly valuable event at Musselburgh. Yauthym was placed off today's mark when fitted with cheekpieces for her latest start and might well be able to better that performance on today's faster ground. Chris Wilson
