Saturday selections from Haydock, Ascot, Kempton and more

Haydock
2.20: Valley Forge
There was a touch of class in the way Valley Forge won the 22-runner Melrose at York, with stamina and a willingness to battle thrown in too. He is selected to defy his 7lb rise, with Praiano likely to provide the greatest challenge given the late gains he made after trouble in running at Sandown, clearly not showing the true extent of what he's capable of.

Ascot
3.10: Wahraan
No-one will have missed the trouble in running which Wahraan encountered at the York Ebor meeting but there has to be major hope after that performance that he can continue with his progressive ways, particularly with his pedigree auguring so well for today's step up to 1m4f. An immediate return to form from C&D winner State Of Bliss, who did not shine at York, is feared most. Champagne Piaff is highly respected with his potential, though, and Chalk Stream has been doing well at 1m4f already.

Kempton
2.05: Wings Of War
The vote goes to Wings Of War, who is progressing nicely and looks an ideal type for this race judged on breeding. Second choice is Scot's Grace, who was impressive over C&D on her debut. Hierarchy (third choice) and Fearless Angel are other interesting contestants. Nymphadora is a touch more exposed but she has a good chance on ratings.
Steve Boow
Stratford
4.15: Romanor
The hefty weight-for-age allowances on offer always make 4yo chasers tempting at this time of year and Ambassador is no exception on his debut over fences. However, Romanor is 2-2 since the exaggerated hold-up tactics were abandoned, runs this track very well and will be suited by today's fast ground. Darling Du Large is next on the list.
Chris Wilson
Thirsk
3.25: Mossbawn
It's easy to make a strong case for Mossbawn, who was raised only 3lb for his recent C&D win and is still quite lightly raced. He gets the vote ahead of Trinity Lake, who hasn't won for a while but will appreciate today's drop back in trip and has been given a chance by the handicapper. Soaring Star should also be suited by today's drop back to 7f and, with cheekpieces refitted, is next on the list.
Chris Wilson
Navan
4.10: Evergreen And Red
Noel Meade's Evergreen And Red has shown slightly uneven form and has let his supporters down twice this season. However, he holds a solid chance on the balance of form, and may benefit from a lower draw than the likes of Jazelle, Chacha Dancer, Duquesa Beach and Harbanaker, all whom have fairly obvious form claims. The Lady's Bid won this event in 2019 and deserves respect.
Alan Sweetman
Wexford
1.05: Boom Boom Boom
A first-time visor looks an interesting addition for Boom Boom Boom and he can get the better of Tramore runner-up Trebizond who is likely to have improved for that outing and looks a big danger. Hurricane Alex finished ahead of a couple of subsequent winners on his most recent hurdles start and is another to consider.
Mark Nunan
Wolverhampton
7.30: Bashosh
There haven't been many more impressive maiden winners this season than Bashosh on his turf debut in the spring and, with his latest small-field Redcar effort readily forgiven, he makes plenty of appeal. The market will be a good indicator with Big Team, who's been gelded since a disappointing stint in Dubai, while the progressive Fair Star, who goes well fresh and whose yard is back in better form, is also respected.
