Mosse in charge as Queen's Derby hopes fade

The slim chance of the Queen having an Investec Derby contender next month seemed to have evaporated when Call To Mind could manage only third in the Fairway Stakes at Newmarket.

Having been favourite in the morning, William Haggas’ colt was uneasy in the market, buit still ran better than new favourite Leshlaa, who was punted down to 11-8 but was beaten with a furlong to go. It remains a mystery how he traded at as low as 1.33 in running.

Victory went to Grey Britain by a nose, the 10-1 shot giving Gerald Mosse a second winner of the meeting after his 12-1 scorer on Friday.
