2pts winOn the biggest day in the Hong Kong season, stick with the most successful trainer, John Moore, who is tipped to be a regular visitor to the winner’s enclosure.
Moore, a veteran of over four decades involvement in local racing, has saddled more than 1,600 winners and won seven Hong Kong International Races – more than any other trainer.
Beauty Generation (7.50) can keep him in the limelight by winning back-to-back runnings of the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile and, although he will be available at cramped odds, it could be argued that he would have been shorter but for his wide draw.
Zac Purton has such confidence in Beauty Generation, he is not afraid to make mid-race manoeuvres if necessary, and this is his trump card in a strong but not vintage running of the Mile.
William Haggas supplies the danger in One Master, a well-bred filly who came home like a train for an excellent fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Churchill Downs.
Followers of this column will not want to miss the Moore-trained Easy Go Easy Win (7.15) in the Maurice Handicap. He has been highlighted several times and finally gets conditions to suit.
The most telling factor in his favour is that he has finally drawn a good gate in six and with Silvestre De Sousa retaining the ride, he can improve on his last start.
With stablemate Good Standing shorter in the betting, the odds are more generous than expected.
Finally, Latrobe (6.00) came up with a veterinary issue on Saturday and he will need to pass the vet before running in the Group 1 Vase, over a mile and a half. Found to be “mildly lame on his left front leg,” there are doubts about his participation but if he gets to post, he can take the prize.
He has been in cracking form and has most to fear from the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Mirage Dancer, who is yet another high-profile horse to be drawn very wide.
