Medina Sidonia looks a sound each-way bet in the Racing UK HD Bluff Cove Handicap (Round 7 of the Pontefract Stayers Championships 2016) (3.30) on the Yorkshire track this afternoon.

Admittedly his win record of 2-20 is not impressive but he has been placed on a further seven occasions and lack of pace rather than resolution has been his undoing. He did little wrong last time when he got the better of La Fritillaire by a short-head over two miles and a furlong on quick ground at Pontefract in a race in which Monjeni, who didn't get the best of runs, and Tuscan Gold finished behind him. That was a solid enough effort and it didn't come out of the blue as he had previously finished runner-up to the progressive Slunovrat over two miles at York.

Stamina is undoubtedly his main asset and up another furlong in trip and on easier ground he can continue the fine run of trainer Tim Easterby.
