Leopardstown Placepot picks: Tom Segal provides his perm on Derby trial day

After a few relatively disappointing seasons, Jim Bolger is making the headlines again after winning the 2,000 Guineas, and his Derby colt Mac Swiney has his Epsom trial in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown (3.15).

The Irish 1,000 Guineas trial (2.45) is wide open but Fantasy Lady comes from an in-from yard and she should improve on her comeback run at Naas.

Aussie Ace's form was given a huge boost when Poetic Flare won the 2,000 Guineas and if the ground isn't too soft then he will be all the rage for the Amethyst (2.15).

However, he's up against a couple of good older Joseph O'Brien trained horses and Raise You and Numerian both look worth including for Placepot purposes.

O'Brien has entered Ulster Blackwater in a clutch of top races so she can be expected to run well in the 1m2f fillies' maiden (3.45). Given she's never run before it's safest to put in another and Bonte Moi started 4-1 to beat Santa Barbara on her sole start.

The opening maiden (1.45) is weak and can be left to the Bolger-trained Eaglefield, who shaped well on his debut but the 1m2f handicap (4.15) needs a couple at least.

The topweight Federica Sophia could be a class above, while Future Proof comes from an in-form stable and is fit from hurdling.
