In each of the last two years, Brando has taken minor honours in the July Cup and he looks worth siding with on the index to net a tidy profit should he make it three in a row.

He is now seven years old and could conceivably be past his best, but it does not take an especially fanciful reading of his form this year to suggest he is essentially as good as he ever was.
