Hong Kong tips: Jim McGrath with three fancies for Friday's Sha Tin card

Computer Patch
9.35 Sha Tin
2pts win

All For St Paul’s
10.10 Sha Tin
2pts win

Tony Cruz sends Computer Patch on a recovery mission as the smart sprinter bids for back-to-back wins in the Group 3 National Day Cup (9.35) over 5f, the feature on Friday's ten-race holiday card at Sha Tin.

Computer Patch looked a potential world beater when he crushed six rivals in last year’s race, but the five-year-old paid the penalty, being hit with an 11lb hike which slowed his progression as he has not won since.

But it would be hard to argue he didn’t deserve the new mark, as he subsequently finished a gutsy second (at level weights) to the brilliant Wellington in the Group 1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize over 6f last April.

Cruz has kept Computer Patch fresh for his seasonal debut, though it’s worth noting the gelding’s encouraging barrier trial at Conghua ten days ago. Following his nice break at the training complex in China, he’s ready to register a repeat victory.

Super Wealthy won on his first start for David Hayes earlier this month and has been drawn near the favoured stands' side rail, as too has his former stablemate, the Douglas Whyte-trainer Stronger, who also has valid claims.

Whyte can combine with his in-form apprentice Jerry Chau to take the 7f handicap at 9.05 with progressive Mister Snowdon, who finished a solid second to Californiandeepshot over course and distance on the opening day of the season.

Significantly, Mister Snowdon meets that rival on much better terms at the weights, with Chau outstanding value for his 5lb claim. Sight Success, drawn on the inside, is likely to attempt to make all, which could set it up nicely for Mister Snowdon, who was formerly trained by Richard Hughes.

Another noted front-runner All For St Paul’s is selected to land the mile handicap at 10.10 on his seasonal debut, though, not for the first time, he is required to overcome a wide draw in stall 14. One to include in combinations is Lakeshore Eagle, who has dropped to a grade he can dominate on his day.
