The Frankie Lor-trained three-year-old Eason looks one of the 'good things' on a tricky nine-race card at Happy Valley on Wednesday.
A good draw in stall three and the booking of Joao Moreira for the son of Written Tycoon is a perfect recipe for success in the Class 3 6f sprint handicap (1.45), in which the Caspar Fownes-trained Killer Instinct is the chief danger.
Eason put a win on the board on only his second start in a Class 4 6f sprint at Sha Tin when partnered by Moreira and he has been runner-up in two subsequent starts from awkward draws at Happy Valley.
On his most recent outing he was overhauled by Meridian Genius, going under by only three-quarters of a length, but he is now one win from four starts without ever finishing out of the first two and his steady improvement should ensure he sees off the opposition here.
Zac Purton, Moreira's great rival, also has an excellent book of rides headed by Armour Eagle, who is tipped to shrug off a 10lb hike in the handicap to take the Class 3 6f sprint (2.15).
Armour Eagle was two from three in Queensland and appears to have gone on improving in his new environment if his last performance is anything to go by. Scotch Tycoon, another lightly-raced type, has earned promotion to this grade following two wins in Class 4 company and is a big threat.
Purton will also be aboard the Ricky Yiu-trained Bulletproof, the one to beat in the Class 4 handicap (12.45), over an extended mile. The gelding put up a determined performance to win over course-and-distance last start and although he is up 6lb in the handicap, he will be hard to run down.
The five-year-old has really struck form and has not finished out of the first four on his last five starts, which will stand him well. Super Red Dragon is another going the right way at present, with his latest second indicating he is good enough to figure in this.
One to note in the finale, the Class 3 mile handicap (2.50), is likely improver Jumbo Fortune, who is trained by Tony Cruz and ridden by Moreira.
The gelding previously had good form in Melbourne, where he finished second in the Group 2 Sires Produce Stakes at Flemington.
