'He'll be spot on' - trainers on their Coral Gold Cup hopes
Paul Nicholls, trainer of Threeunderthrufive
He goes for the Coral Gold Cup. The plan has always been to go for this race and after his run at Wetherby last Saturday, it will be his next start.
Dan Skelton, trainer of Ashtown Lad, Le Milos & Protektorat
Ashtown Lad runs this weekend at Aintree over hurdles. He will then run in either the Coral Gold Cup or the Becher Chase. He was fifth in the Scottish National when he didn't stay the last couple of jumps but I think three miles and two furlongs is totally reasonable. As he gets older he may stay even further and might develop into a Grand National horse. I've no concern running him over the National fences in the Becher but it's not a million to one that I confirm him for Newbury. I'm giving him the options at the moment.
Le Milos also has entries in the Coral Gold Cup and Becher Chase. He's a horse who is very new to us but I feel like he's got significant quality to try and target these races with. He's not a slow horse at home and has a bit of class. He'll go to Bangor next week and there's plenty left under the bonnet to work with. I've got my mind on either the Coral or the Becher and you might find that Ashtown Lad goes one way and Le Milos the other. I know Darren Yates [Ashtown Lad's owner] is mad keen to go and run over the National fences and that might be a swaying factor if I'm totally honest. I'm completely on the fence but I think both are players in these types of races.
